CARNE y ARENA is the first VR project ever to be selected for the Cannes Film Festival.

A few months back I had the opportunity to work on my first VR project. It was really exciting to Get a call form the sound mixer Colin Hart asking if I would be interested in Utilizing for him on a shoot that was going to be mixed at Skywalker Sound. To Sweeten the deal I found out that Randy Thom (Mixer on Starwars, Indiana Jones, The Revenant, Etc.), Alejandro G. Iñárritu (Director of Birdman, The Revenant) and Emmanuel Lubezki (DP of Birdman, The Revenant) were all going to be on set as well.

We had a major setup that included 2 Sound Devices 688s, a sound device 702, 2 Booms, and 18 Lectrosonics lavs to make this shoot happen.

Cafe Con Leche

cafe-con-leche.png

Cafe Con Leche is a film I dialog edited, Foleyed, and sound designed directed by Ray Gallardo about the Mexican Cartel and the DA who is trying to arrest them. It was a really fun job to work on because it really built my chops with cutting fight scenes and preforming Foley. I learned a lot about the use of cloth to make a scene feel more alive and give the actors a more human feel. Every punch, hit or body fall was accompanied by the cloth and some sort of air movement that makes it scene more cinamatic and "Real" even though it is not how it would sound if someone got punched in reality.

iGirlfriend

[vimeo 114510484 w=500 h=281]iGirlfriend is a feature film Directed by Scott Coones. I Dialog Edited, Sound designed, and Recorded Foley in conjunction with Tony Crowe of Crowe Audio.

This film was a Weird Science style film that included a lot of computer interfaces that needed sound design. Tony and I had fun with this project spending countless hours meticulously going through each scene smoothing the dialog, placing sounds for all of the movements, and making creative decisions to make the film feel as lifelike as possible.

What Is Motherhood?

This was a really fun projected directed by Justin Baldoni for mothers day this past year. I recorded 30-40 moms and their kids saying what motherhood ment to them. I dont know if I will ever have to put as many "Fluffy" microphones on more kids in one day. Great learning experience with quick turnarounds!

Lytro Cinema

I had the pleasure to work with Bonfire Labs and Velvy Appleton on this project. I Mixed all of the Behind the Scenes footage for this ground breaking even in Cinema history. Getting to see this camera at work while they shot the short film "Life" was amazing.

The Gospel

screen-shot-2015-12-09-at-9-23-28-pm.png

The Gospel is a social commentary short film that I did the sound for, from production to post. In this film I got to dive into the emotions of the characters by playing with breathing and reverbs. The slow motion scenes in the film allowed for fun environment to experiment with different sound design techniques.

Menlo House

screen-shot-2015-11-27-at-10-00-22-pm.png

Menlo House is a creative Horror-esque short directed by Corsica Wilson and Juliana Morgan. I was given a blank slate for audio and recreated all of the sound. All of the Dialog was ADR recorded in my Los Angeles apartment to make it feel as if it was recorded on set. Finding sounds for all of the different happenings in the film made for some fun creation and manipulation of effects to make viewers feel in the moment.

Wolf at the Door

"Wolf at the Door" is a short directed by Blair Cosby, that I did the location and post sound on. It gives the perspective of a young boy whose mother, a prostitute, puts him in the closet when her pimp comes over. The majority of the action happens on the other side of a closed door. Not only did I have the foley of what you saw on screen but had to give the illusion of what was not. This gave me the freedom to use the imagination of the viewers to paint a picture of the horrors that the mother was truly going through.

Hope Bridge

Hope Bridge is a feature film directed by Joshua Overbay in conjunction with Rebel Pilgrum. I was in charge of the field recordings of all of the vehicles in the film. I rigged a Jeep Cherokee, Subaru Outback, and a Mercury Cougar with microphones to capture all of the sounds that cars make.

As It Is In Heaven

As It Is In Heaven is a feature film directed by Joshua Overbay. It was a micro-budget film that I was a Sound Effects Editor on. Being my first feature, I worked alongside Barry Blair, Supervising Sound Editor, cutting effects and recording vehicles. My primary task was cleaning up the recording shoots that we did and placing them into the film when appropriate. For more information visit the website at asitisinheaventhemovie.com.

Le Spark

As the fourth animation I have done with Winck Studios, I enjoyed figuring out how to create the sound of bugs. They are not as simple as you might think! Unlike working with humans, fireflies and crickets have a complex exoskeleton. We used many different things to emulate what they would be like. Surprisingly, for the purposes of the film, I used a lot of effects that are made to be used in horror films. The unexpected nature of this short made it especially fun to cut.

The Picnic

screen-shot-2014-04-28-at-9-08-54-pm.png

By Director Daniel Bowman, The Picnic features a father that tries to reconnect with his daughter after a lifetime apart. A nice thing about this film was there was the opportunity to use sound in several different capacities from the abstract beginning to the realistic center to the impressionistic end. I enjoyed everything from the location sound to the final mix.

Charged

[vimeo http://vimeo.com/63818845] Charged is a short animated film directed by Nathaniel Winckler about a young bee comes to the aid of his energetic friend in a time of crisis. On this I recorded and edited all of the sound effects in this film. On this film I was a writer, sound effects recordist, sound designer, Foley artist, and audio editor. I recorded every sound effect that was in this film.
